We don’t always get to choose the path we walk in life. I sure would not have chosen cancer to celebrate my 60th year, but God had other plans.
Sure I trusted God to lead me…but through the valley of the shadow of death? Wasn’t there a different route?
I expected the despair of cancer, but what took me by surprise was the laughter and even joy in the midst of it. While I would not have minded learning these things without sacrificing a breast, no one consulted me.
This is my story of following and trusting God, no matter what. A book about cancer may sound depressing, but honestly, this is a funny book. In fact, when I look back on the year of this little detour in life, I don’t remember the horror. I remember God with me and inexplicable peace and blessing during some pretty rough times.
This is my offering of hope and encouragement no matter what trial you are facing.
As I compiled my cancer book which is in journal form, I realized many of my entries included parallel stories of my work counseling abortion-minded women. As they were so callously throwing life away, I was trying desperately to save my own. The Biblical counsel to both of us was the same. This book is a tribute to the sacred value of life.
Quote from book
I watched my phone click off the mileage, and as soon as it hit 6.2 miles, the distance of a 10k, I clicked finish on "Map My Run." The last two miles I averaged below 730/mile. I did it. I don't know what reserve all that speed came out of, but it showed me something I needed to see.
We defeat ourselves. We are almost always capable of doing more than we believe we are capable of doing. Similarly, we defeat God's work in our lives. Our vision of God is rarely too big...it is usually too small. Can God handle even this cancer? Of course He can. Can He empower me to handle it? Is God big enough for even this?
You may not be facing cancer, but I bet you have asked this of God at some point in your life about some overwhelming obstacle. If you haven't, you probably will.

I thought this would be a depressing book, and the subject certainly is somber. However reading these daily journal posts of a cancer survivor actually was uplifting. Not in the "martyr, oh what a saint!" way, but more along the lines of "what a great view into the tough times, but how point of view changes the feel of those times." It isn't the Goliath slaying book like so many journals of cancer survivors tend to be. It is the mundane daily activities and challenges, and it is the living of a life in the shadow of disease and healthcare decisions. Besides being a good read on its own merits, it is an encouraging story worth well over the price. Buy it for yourself. Buy it for a friend in need. Just bit it. You won't regret it.Product details
