After the breakup of the famous and somewhat infamous band Haze, 15 years ago, Stuart McNeil should have been living a somewhat sheltered existence in his Scottish Highland home. Band tantrums, drug filled days and nights, torrid sex and one night stands or squabbling over set lists and album contents should have been replaced with a loving wife, a handful of kids and establishing himself as a serious musician. But at 40, he was still living with the narcissistic and temperamental lead singer and his life was going no where. Then an opportunity arises to reunite the band and tour the states. Some of them haven't spoken to each other in years but that doesn't faze Stuart whatsoever. He has unfinished business and it isn't only with the band. Facing the chaos of touring again with 5 aging rock stars, dealing with family issues, his own musical legacy and the woman he left behind, Stuart finds that it's not only his Stratocaster that's out of tune.

It's hard to believe this is the first published novel for author Janet Merrill. Her writing and narrative flow are both very polished and powerful--making for an easy, yet compelling read. This is a bloody brilliant love story about a roadie and a groupie finding themselves and one another during the reunion tour of the band that defines them both. But it's also a love story about the power of music to change one's life, for better or worse.Janet's own love for the live music scene comes through loud and clear--the emotions are raw and real, both between the characters and for the whole setting of life on the road with a rock band. The story and its characters feel very authentic--capturing the good, the bad and the ugly when you get up close and personal with rock stars, especially for those who are caught in their gravitational pull.
Years ago, I really enjoyed being taken behind the scenes on a rock tour in the movie "Almost Famous," but that story felt a bit sanitized--almost too good to be true. Janet's deeper, darker tale really resonnated with me, and struck me as far more realistic. I look forward to her next book!

I enjoyed this rock and roll love story very much. Look forward to the next project from Janet Merrill!
I didn't know what to expect when I started the book. I liked the characters and wanted to continue reading. It didn't take very long to read. The story went along pretty smoothly. It was entertaining and I would like to read more music based books with fun characters! Thank you Janet for keeping me entertained, please give us another story.
The book is a fast read because it's so interesting. I read it in two days - didn't want to put it down! It's a very relatable story. Looking forward to more of Janet Merrill's stories.
Out of Tune is a glimpse into the lives of "slightly" aging rock stars & a lost love rekindled.
I found author Merrill's take an upbeat, sweet & nostalgic look back on what "could've been" enjoyable.
She left me wanting to read the next chapter that wasn't there. Which hopefully, means it will be
coming soon? The band members she wrote about, all have more in their lives I would like to explore!
I don't think this book is for everyone but anybody that's been to a few concerts in the last, say 40-50 years,
will have fun! Can't wait for the sequel!
If you love music passionately, not just love it, but your panties get moist when the song is just right, then this is a book for you. On top of the music, there is a yummy Scotts man, in fact an entire band of them, but one in particular who is on the hunt for his paramour. I loved a romance from a male perspective. Often men in romances have no depth. Not true in this case. Janet nailed it! I can't wait for the second book to come out, which I have it on good authority is in the works.
Original story about a girl and her favorite band during their reunion tour 15 years after they broke up. Our priorities may change as we get older, but music can still carry the heart to our favorite places. In my opinion, the best way to tell how good a book is, would be how sad you are that it is ending. At about the halfway point, I couldn't wait to see how it ended...then when I got close to the end, I slowed down to savor the last bits. Very well written, can't wait to see what comes next!
I love a good band boy book- this one is fun the Band Haze is a Scottish Band. I love the lingo and imagine the accents throughout the book. Stuart McNeil pretty much runs his brother's band writing the music, getting gigs and keeping his brother Nick under control. It has been 15 years since he ran out on a young groupie Alexis. Stu has got the back together for a reunion tour even though most haven't spoken in many years. Alexis followed Haze in their early days, she and Stuart hung out argued music and enjoyed each others company. I love how they meet up again. The music lyrics are great in this book. Love this story.
